چکیده

We describe an architecture and Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for WDM networks. Our system is based on a broadcast star architecture and uses an unslotted access protocol and a centralized scheduler to efficiently provide bandwidth-on-demand in WDM networks. To overcome the effects of propagation delays the scheduler measures the delays between the terminals and the hub and takes that delay into account when scheduling transmissions. Simple scheduling algorithms, based on a look-ahead capability, are used to overcome the effects of head-of-line blocking. An important application area for this system is in optical Access Networks, where this novel MAC protocol can be used to access wavelengths in a WDM Passive Optical Network (PON).

Estimating Message Latencies in Time-Triggered Shared-Clock Scheduling Protocols Built on CAN Network

The Controller Area Network (CAN) is an event-triggered protocol that is widely used in distributed real-time embedded systems. It has been demonstrated that a “Shared-Clock” (S-C) scheduling protocol can be used on top of CAN hardware to implement time-triggered network operations. Previous work in this area has led to the development of five different time-triggered S-C scheduling protocols r...

Delay-dependent stability for transparent bilateral teleoperation system: an LMI approach

There are two significant goals in teleoperation systems: Stability and performance. This paper introduces an LMI-based robust control method for bilateral transparent teleoperation systems in presence of model mismatch. The uncertainties in time delay in communication channel, task environment and model parameters of master-slave systems is called model mismatch. The time delay in communicatio...

A real-time distributed scheduling algorithm for supporting QoS over WDM networks

Most existing or proposed WDM networks employ circuit switching, typically with one session having exclusive use of one entire wavelength. Consequently they are not suitable for data applications involving bursty traac patterns. The MIT AON Consortium 1 has developed an all-optical LAN/MAN testbed which provides time-slotted WDM service and employs fast-tunable transceivers in each optical term...

Performance models for master / slave parallel programs 1

This paper proposes the use of Stochastic Automata Networks (SAN) to develop models that can be efficiently applied to a large class of parallel implementations: master/slave (m/s) programs. We focus our technique in the description of the communication between master and slave nodes considering two standard behaviors: synchronous and asynchronous interactions. Although the SAN models may help ...

Asynchronous Traffic Signaling over Master-Slave Switched Ethernet protocols

Network protocol designers have always been divided between the adoption of centralized or distributed communication architectures. Despite exhibiting negative aspects like the existence of a single point-of-failure in the master as well as computational overhead and an inefficient handling of the asynchronous communications, Master-Slave protocols have always found their space mainly given the...
